Street Style – New York Fashion Week
While there are some amazing pieces being shown on the run way during NYFW, all eyes are on the notable fashion moments being captured on the streets.
The major trends I am seeing are layers (a personal favourite), menswear inspired combinations, statement coats and 70’s inspired flares, culottes and skirts with knee high boots.
With the unseasonably cold weather we have had this weekend and Autumn just around the corner, this is where I am seeking some early inspiration and outfit ideas for the coming Autumn / Winter season.
Here are some of my favourites after day 2.
I love how Margaret Zhang (Shine by Three) has not only layered a dress over her flares but a trench over a trench. Love, love this.
Aimee Song, (Song of Style), and Margaret Zhang in menswear inspired layers.
A good way to add detail to an outfit, belting a poncho or coat.
What a line up. I love Jacey Duprie’s style (Damsel in Dior).
One of my favourite looks – the texture of the chunky knit scarf with the long coat, and Nicole Warne (Gary Pepper Girl) looks gorgeous in this colour.
Natalie Cantell picture perfect and those shoes!
Brooke Testoni keeping it cool in winter essential grey, while and black.
I love the versatility of this cape and how it is like a dress. Not to mention the monochrome layers.
This ice blue coat will lighten up any winter wardrobe and Caroline Issa matching it with white – amazing.
Aimee Song has pulled this one together perfectly. The bold coat, clashing handbag and my favourite, the flares!
Frame denim kicked off NFYW, with the rest of their collection keeping to this retro style.
It didn’t take long to hit the streets.

7 Favourites of the Week
This New Zealand chain store has picked up its game over the past 18 months turning itself in to a ‘High Street’ favourite capable of competing with the best – Top Shop; soon to open in Auckland, (I hear March).
I am loving their latest collection, it captures the essence of summer and will have you festival ready in seconds. Here are my picks.
Wearing my favourite, the white off the shoulder blouse.
Wellington is famous for its great coffee, food, the wind and being the culture & innovation hub of New Zealand, it also is one of the prettiest cities with a beautiful harbour, hiking on your doorstep and beautiful beaches to swim.
To top this off, what about the weather we have been having?! This is a big deal for Wellingtonians. Not only has it been calm, but consistent temperatures between 25 – 30 degrees – winning! Being able to go for a swim almost every day after work has been the highlight of my week!
Did I mention the wind?
Not only is it a wonder food, but with this amazing weather it has been great to put in my hair after swimming in the sea. Just finger comb it through, put your hair in a braid and wash out the next morning.
Dr FeelGood All Natural Frozen Pops
Deliciously refreshing, these handcrafted frozen pops come in 6 flavours – Chocoholic Cacao & Cream | Raspberry, Lime & Coconut | Flat White Coffee & Cream | Salted Caramel & Apple | Lemon, Manuka Honey & Ginger | Granny Smith, Lime & Mint. All are refined sugar-free and they are a healthy treat! My favourite flavour is Raspberry, Lime and Coconut. Check out ingredients and stockists here.
I was pretty excited to learn that one of my favourite online homeware and accessories stores had set up shop in down town Wellington. Let Liv oozes clean Scandinavia style and the shop on Hunter street showcases this. I popped in to check it out and did not leave empty-handed.
The Allegiance Boot
Chaos & Harmony have done it again with the creation of the elegant Allegiance boot. Perfect for Autumn and Winter, pair them with your favourite skinny jeans or a knee-length or midi skirt. I am pretty excited about this release!
Last but not least…..
Shake it Off
The perfect way to forget any ‘BS’ is to dance! Thank you Taylor Swift!
Now go on, turn this one up loud.

My Slice of Paradise
Taranaki, New Zealand, famous for its surf beaches, (shh don’t tell Mr Hayle & Grace I’m sharing that), stunning coast line, hiking trails and being able to gaze, from wherever you are, at the majestic towering beauty that is Mt Taranaki. In addition to it’s magical beauty there are also some great places to dust off the sand and experience good food, coffee and shopping. Here are a few of my favourites.
Oakura beach, where any trace of city life is washed away with the tide and the uniform of choice becomes a bikini, denim shorts and jandals. In recent times there have been a couple of new additions in town that have appealed to my love for food and coffee and what better way to enjoy either than with this stunning beachside view.
Originating from near Biarritz in France, I have a feeling the coffee is going to be good; and when I learn the baked goods are made fresh each morning by Francois I immediately add a croissant to my order! I am so pleased I did, the coffee and croissants are among some of the best I have had.
Needless to say it became a morning ritual, after our surf of course.
The other great combination that works so well in Oakura is Mexican food served seaside courtesy of Holy Guacamole. Pull up a bean chair, crack a refreshing drink and order one of their amazing tacos, quesadillas or, my favourite, fish burittos and settle in to watch the sun go down. Oh and….they are community conscious too serving ‘Burritos for Brains’ in local schools! Great idea.
Nothing like a beautiful sunset – Oakura beach.
If you find yourself wanting a hit of the city while on holiday take the 15 minute drive in to New Plymouth and head straight to Ozone Coffee Roasters – The Bean Store for your morning coffee. Ozone Coffee Roasters are the ‘old boys’ of coffee in NZ and at The Bean Store serve some of the best brews you can get. It is always a must stop whenever we head in to the city. Don’t forget to stock up on those fresh roasts before you go.
Using this new found energy shopping is surely in order, so I insist you drop in to Katwalk Fashion House for some stylish finds. Katwalk is where this happened…..oops!! So right for so many reasons.
The store is very inviting and Laura, the owner, is exceptionally helpful and welcoming. Check it out.
You would have worked up a bit of an appetite by now so make your way immediately to Social Kitchen to settle in for vino and some delicious tapas. If the sun is shining take a seat in the courtyard, it’s a treat!
If I’m yet to tempt you to take a trip to Taranaki then maybe this backdrop will.
A beautiful part of New Zealand for so many reasons and my wee slice of paradise.
The Bec & Bridge – Drifter Top & Skirt, holiday appropriate in red.
ASOS – Bandage Back Jacquard Tulip Dress | Chaos & Harmony – Dreamstone Black Heel | Meadowlark – Crystal Chain Earrings. I love how this dress has a couple of styles to it and with it being silver it suits the holiday season perfectly.
I have long been a fan of Yeojin’s beautifully femine style and was delighted when I found this aqua beauty was being re-cut; perfect for the festive and wedding season. Thanks Haejin for making delivery so easy!!
I hope you all are enjoying the build up to the holidays with family and friends. I would love for you to share what you are wearing #hayleandgrace on Instagram.

Back to Basics
I am not sure about you, but finding the perfect tee is tough. You would think for something so basic it would be easy, especially given the volume of t-shirts on offer. However, getting a cut that is flattering, affordable, doesn’t stretch after the first wash and isn’t see through is not an easy feat.
A couple of years ago I found my perfect match and it ticks all the boxes except one, the price! So following a conversation with a friend recently, about this exact thing, I decided to go on the hunt for the basic tee.
On a mission, Glassons and Moochi did not disappoint. Glassons tees, (bottom right), are a bargain at two for $30, the cut just a little too boxy for my frame.
However, a variety of stores and piles of grey, white and black tee’s later it really came down to two…….
One for the Lads
Think motorcycles, old school style and the masculine, earthy smells of nature – Triumph & Disaster have nailed it with their range of male grooming products, enticing even the ‘toughest’ to give it a try.
This kiwi start-up, founded by former New Zealand cricketer Dion Nash, has hit a six with men around the country and increasingly, across the globe. Founded on strong values, Dion speaks of a poem given to him by his father as the inspiration for the name, Triumph & Disaster show cases a variety of products for the stylish and rugged male combined.
I stumbled across Triumph & Disaster products earlier in the year when shopping for ‘Mr Hayle and Grace’. As an outdoors kind of guy I knew he would like the smell and masculinity of the products. Turns out he loved them.
I am thinking with Christmas fast approaching Triumph & Disaster will make for a great gift idea.

Favourites of the Week
Along with the Winter Solstice, this weekend brought some cool temperatures and weather that did not make me feel guilty at all about laying low and relaxing inside. I was quietly excited as it was the perfect opportunity to burn my new Coconut with Fig candle from Blanc & Co.
Created by Auckland duo Lucy White & Cam Burns, Blanc & Co have three scents available, Coconut with Fig, Vanilla with Cinnamon and Pomegranate with Rose. I love candles and how they easily uplift your home, and with them being locally made, I couldn’t resist ordering.
With vino poured and my favourite mag’s within arms reach, there is not a better way to share some of my favourites things of the week with you. If only I could capture the beautiful scent!
With the days getting shorter and the weather a little dull it was a perfect time to visit the beautiful Jade at Buoy to brighten up my look. A little more blond, a little less length, some beach waves and voila…I left happy.
One of my favourite weekend get ups at the moment are my Bassike lo slung jeans and Juliet Hogan Derek Sweater. This pairing is both comfortable and stylish, and I throw on my heels for a little glam.
Lastly, a finishing touch, Blue Satin by Chanel. I love a dark polish and winter is the perfect time to give this look a try. This silky polish is navy in colour and the more you layer the darker it is. Nothing like a Sunday DIY mani to perk up your style after the shortest day of the year……
The days only get longer from here! Enjoy xo
Winter Style Inspiration
Despite the thermometer dipping, with the cooler air comes the excitement of mixing layers and fabrics for some chic winter looks. Leather and denim are favourites of mine this season as well as a feminine flared skirt. Pair these with the a cosy wool jumper, simple white shirt, grey t or check. Lastly, you can’t beat a stylish winter coat.
Check out some of the looks on those who inspire me.
Jessie Bush from blog ‘We the People’ gets it right every time. Leather gives this ‘pretty’ style a harder edge, love it.
Kate Bosworth, always one worth watching for style inspiration, works the 90’s come back kid the check shirt. Below I add my touch.
The stunning Jules Sarinana from blog Sincerely, Jules wears a white shirt with style. Wearing here ‘Silence + Noise Tuckered & Shirred Button Down Shirt’ from Urban Outfitters. Great look for summer.
Layering a white shirt for winter, wear it under a woollen jumper or team with a leather jacket, tuxedo pant and heels.
Damsel in Dior blogger Jacey Duprie shows us how to wear leather, with a pair of kick a** heels and a cosy knit.
The pair I am coveting this winter is the Camilla and Marc Wireless Legging
You will likely always see Elle Ferguson from ‘They All Hate Us’ wearing denim, whether it be a worn pair of jeans or cut-offs, this is one of the reasons why I follow her and best friend Tash Sefton sharing their style on Instagram. Below are two favourites of mine. Contrasting, yet comfortable and stylish, they look great with trainers or heels
Finally, our ‘Damsel in Dior’ wears Sass & Bide Snowbird Capelet. This capelet is gorgeous and certainly inspires the trend for capes this season.
I hope you can seek some inspiration for winter from this post. Check out what the other bloggers are posting about to see who is inspiring me.
Right as Rain
Usually one to opt for a stylish woollen coat and a sturdy umbrella for the winter, living in Wellington has provided me with a challenge.
Being the windy city the rain comes at you horizontally and you are often left battling with your umbrella only for it to be blown inside out or out of your hands altogether. (Cue a little laughter)!
So, I am on a mission to find a raincoat that is both stylish and practical.
I immediately think of the ultimate classic, Burberry!
Yes, this beauty does solve the stylish and practical problem and is a quick win if your budget extends that far. For me …I am going to have to put it on the savings list for next year.
Off I go and do a little research and I have come up with the following options.
Nothing beats a good quality trench coat or the casual cool of the parka. Barbour are an excellent and reliable brand, you get your money’s worth. ASOS has great and affordable variety.
Loving these coats with their pop of red to brighten a dull winters day. (I think I may have found a favourite).
A little obsessed with capes this season, I love the Raincape by Moochi. Hmmmm….now I just need to decide.
I had a lot of fun this morning at Superette in Wellington trying on the new Bassike Low Slung 30 Yr Aged Jean. They are a great pair of jeans that I just had to share. They are not only stylish but comfortable as well. When I tried them on I did not want to take them off.
They would look great with a pair of Converse sneakers or edgy flats, for those of us who are not tall I would recommend pairing them with a heel, worn here with the Nicholas ‘Hari’ heel.
There is nothing like a beautifully cut and stylish pair of pants that are comfortable too. I was looking for a pair that would see me through the 9-5 as well as weekend fun, and I found them….
In a beautiful nude, they look great paired with white, cream and black. I wear them here with a cream camisole from Club Monaco.
The swagger looks great worn slouchy and rolled at the bottom.
Worn here with a leather jacket, the Swagger also looks great with a tailored blazer and your top of choice tucked in at the front.
Although I am still very much enjoying summer, I am a little excited about the Autumn/Winter fashion collections that are starting to be released. A favourite so far is the strong, yet feminine cuts of Bec & Bridge!
Monochrome seems to be featuring along with a favourite of mine, stripes!
(Pictures from Bec & Bridge Instagram)
This is me working monochrome! How do you wear it?
